<i><u>Rezumat/Summary</u></i><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>This book shows us another side of Sookie than the one we got used to. Up to this point, we only got to see Sookie as part of a couple or a team, having her vampire boyfriend, Bill, by her side, but this time she will have to face the supernatural world alone or with the help of Alcide Harveaux, a werewolf with a very jealous girlfriend. Since at the beginning of the book we find out that Bill was working on a super secret project about vampires, and is soon reported to be missing, his boss, Eric, asks Sookie to go to Mississippi and act as a spy for them, in order to find Bill.</b><br />
<b>By the end of the book she manage to find and save Bill from his former lover and maker, Lorena, but being deprived of food and sleep, he tries to attack her, leaving her very scared and upset, By the end of the book, Sookie breaks up with Bill and rescinds both Bill's and Eric's invitations inside her house. She then realizes that all of Bill's super secret work is stored in her basement and no vampire can enter her house, without her permission.</b><br />

<i><u>Rezumat/Summary</u></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>In this novel, Sookie and Bill, the heroes from the first book of the series , "Dead until dark", continue their adventures among humans and vampires. Sookie has been asked by Eric, Bill's boss, to participate in a business meeting hosted by vampires, where, using her telepathic powers she should be able to gather information about a missing vampire. </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Throughout the book, Sookie manages to track down the missing vampire, but, due to a series of events, she ends up stabbed with a stake and taken as a hostage. </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>In the same context, we find out about the Fellowship of the Sun, an unpleasant anti-vampire pseudo-church and other supernatural creatures - maenades, werewolves and shapeshifters - who live among people on Earth, in their own communities and following their own rules and laws. </b></div>

Mi-a plăcut foarte mult. </span></span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">În prima postare am uitat să menționez că serialul "True Blood" a fost inspirat din această serie de cărți. It was a very interesting lecture, the characters were well-contoured and faced many breath-taking situations; the story-line was full of twists, keeping me in tension till the end. I enjoyed it very much.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">Last time, I forgot to mention that the TV series called "True Blood", was inspired by these books. <i>Rezumat/Summary</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>This is a story about vampires... and other magical creatures. The main character of the story is Sookie Stackhouse, a 25 year old woman from New Temps, Louisiana, whose parents have died when she and her brother were little, that works as a waitress in a diner and lives with her grandmother. She seems rather plain at first sight (lecture), but, actually, she has a very uncommon quality - she is a telepathic person. This "gift" has been a real burden for her throughout the years but she has learned to cope with it, managing to block other people's thoughts at work and even help the police solve cases.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>On the other hand, outside the borders of the small town where Sookie lives, people's lives aren't that quiet. The Japanese have invented synthetic blood so now vampires can live among the normal/alive people, not needing to hide from them or drink their blood anymore. But, this thing generates numerous interracial conflicts between humans and vampires.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Soon after the number of conflicts has raised, a vampire, Bill Compton, arrives in New Temps. Sookie is very attracted to him from the moment he enters the diner, during her shift, and in a short period of time they form a couple and live a beautiful love story, "seasoned" with numerous cabals and adventures. </b></div>

</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;"> Nu recomand cartea celor prea pudici deoarece conține câteva scene mai... explicite. </span></span><br />

I can't say it's hard to read, on the contrary, but the way Sookie tells her story (the narration is first person) captivated me. This is my favorite volume from the series, "</b></span><b><span style="text-align: center;">The Southern Vampire Mysteries"</span><span style="text-align: center;">, maybe because of the simplicity of the action, or because Sookie is more sensible and more caring. The characters are very beautifully described, really easy to imagine and so are the locations where the action takes place. I hate long descriptions, especially about nature, and you won't find such things in this book. It was very easy for me to imagine everything and let myself captivated by the Sookie and Bill's story. </span></b><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><b>I don't recommend this book to chaste persons because it contains some scenes that can be described as... explicit.</b></span><br />

<br />

<b>The main character of this book is called Emma Corrigan , an ordinary girl who works at a company called Panther Cola, has a (-n almost) perfect boyfriend and longs to get a promotion. While being on a business trip, the plane experiences turbulence, and she tells an appealing stranger all her deepest secrets. The stranger, who is, actually, the founder of the company where she works, finds out both, her personal secrets - how uncomfortable the bikinis she received from her boyfriend are, that she reads the summary of <span style="font-family: Georgia, arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.003000259399414px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.003000259399414px;">intellectual</span> books and then talks about them like she had read them, that her boyfriend is not very talented in bed - and things about what she does (or not) at work - <span style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 16.003000259399414px;">everyone uses the word ‘operational’ all the time but she hasn't a clue what it means</span>, that she threw a problematic client's file into the bin and that she hates the coffee from the office.</b><br />
<b>To her misfortune (?), the stranger comes to work at the company for a while, and Emma, embarrassed, tries to avoid him until she realizes that she's madly in love with him, and that, while he knows all her secrets, she doesn't know anything about him.</b><br />
<b>Things start to get interesting when mysteriously, the coffee machine from Emma's workplace is replaced by a new coffee machine, more modern, that makes delicious coffee.</b><br />

<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">★★★★★ Aceasta carte a ajuns direct in topul cartilor mele preferate, inca de la primele pagini. O ador! </span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">Mi se pare ca Sophie Kinsella (una din autoarele mele preferate) a avut o idee foarte originala atunci cand a scris aceasta carte si datorita ei am inceput sa indragesc genul "chic-lit".</span><br />

I adore it! I've re-read it at least 5 times, it's easy to read and super fun. The main character, Emma, is very charismatic and fun, even though she's unorganized, and I even relate to her from time to time, and the whole book's plot is amusing, surprising and, even though all Chic books have happy endings so it's something predictable, the way things happen keep you interested. </b></span><br />

<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">Rezumat/Summary</span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;"><br /></span>
</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">I can't really make a summary for this book, since it contains a number of short stories, each written in a different style, an authentic style, by a different author. The link between all these stories is the question that the editor, Radu Paraschivescu, asked all of the authors - "What is the song of your life", probably referring to a theme song, a song that defines them as persons. </span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">Each author answered this question by writing a short story (or a longer one, since no limits were imposed), that was related to a moment of their lives, when a song changed their way of thinking, influenced them to act in a certain way and had a positive or negative impact upon them. </span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">The book's name, roughly translated "From Waters to Similea (Cool people write about their music)" is a reference to two of the singers mentioned in the book, Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) and Angela Similea (a Romanian singer).</span></span><br />

</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
</span></span></div>

<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px; text-align: start;">This book presents Susan Hill's opinion of how the book "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier should have ended, a sequel to the famous novel. The main characters of the book, Maxim de Winter and his wife have lived in a self imposed exile in Europe, on the continent, after Manderlay had burned in a fire. After 10 years of exile, they receive a letter informing them that Maxim's sister, Beatrice has died, so they decide to go back to England, to attend the funeral. After staying a while at Beatrice's husband's house, the couple travels to Scotland and, since his wife is so fond of the place, Maxim decides to buy a house there. Their plans are, however, postponed, due to the appearance of Mrs. Danvers (Rebecca's housekeeper and confident) and Mr. Favell (Rebecca's cousin), who are determined to find out the truth about Rebecca's (Maxim's first wife) death.</span></div>

Review<br />
<br />
</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">★★★ I enjoyed this book, but there's something missing - that "thing" that makes me really like it.</span><span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;"> I liked the idea of a sequel ( the final pages of "Rebecca" left us hanging), but I don't consider this a proper sequel for "Rebecca". Even though Susan Hill's style is similar to Daphne du Maurier's style, and the author respects all the information we had from the original book and the story line, I consider that she adopted a very pessimistic tone in the end, that doesn't really fit in. I admit that I prefer happy endings and I prefer an open ending rather than a dramatic/sad one.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;"><br /></span></span>

<span style="color: #002f44; font-family: Copse;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 23.18400001525879px;">Favorite quote</span></span></div>
<br />
“We were here, home, back at last and my heart was full. I felt released, new born, desperate with a sort of sickness at the sight of the autumn fields, the trees and hedgerows, the sky and the sunlight, even the black flocks of swirling, flapping crows. I was guilty and ashamed, as if I were betraying Maxim and my loyalty to him as his wife, so that then, in a small pathetic gesture that only I could understand I deliberately turned my head away from the window and refused to look at what I saw and loved.”<br />

<a name='more'></a>Rezumat/Summary<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
" Azi noapte am visat că mă întorsesem la Manderlay. " ( Mrs. de Winter)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderlay again." (Mrs. de Winter)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Rebecca" is the story of a young orphan, who's name we never find out, which, working as a companion for a rich american lady, in Monte Carlo, meets her future husband, Maxim de Winter. In the beginning, she finds him cold and distant towards everything and everyone, but he manages to make her fall in love with him, with his charm and politeness.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After their marriage, the couple moves into Maxim's mansion, Manderlay, situated in the west side of England, where he spends a lot of time taking care of his business and has the same attitude he had back in Monte Carlo, and she tries to do things that Maxim's previous wife, Rebecca, used to do around the house. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mrs. Danvers ("someone tall and gaunt, dressed in deep black, whose prominent cheek-bones and great, hollow eyes gave her a skull's face..." - Mrs. de Winter) the housekeeper and Rebecca's companion, always tried to make her feel less important than Rebecca and told her that her husband's ex-wife had died in a navigating accident, in the bay. Everyone, including Rebecca's cousin, Favell, compared the "new" Mrs. de Winter to Maxim's ex-wife, impolitely. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
During her stay at Manderlay, Mrs. de Winter became more and more depressed due to the "ghost" of Rebecca, who seemed to be present everywhere, and, in the end, she discovers, due to another accident that happens in the same bay where Rebecca drowned, that her death was not an accident, but a crime.</div>

Review</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
★★★★★ I simply adore this book. I loved it ever since I read the first lines and, I admit, I read it in a single night. I've re-read it twice since then and I'm still fascinated by it. It is the ideal combination between mystery, thriller and a little romance, being also a psychological novel.</div>

The author, Daphne du Maurier, has a way of writing that leaves you unable to let the book out of your hand before finishing it , making me feel like I was part of the story, being right next to Mrs. de Winter, feeling her pain and trying to discover why Maxim was being so distant, why Mrs. Danvers hated her so much and, sometimes, I could even feel the scent of the rhododendrons set aside the alley that lead to Manderlay.</div>

Favorite quote:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
“If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.” </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
